- Originally, many fans assumed that Yellowstone season 4 would follow its normal schedule and premiere on Sunday, June 20.
- At this point, Paramount Network hasn’t confirmed the Yellowstone season 4 start date — and it’s looking like the show won’t be coming out anytime soon.
- Some very determined fans are piecing together clues to determine the show’s start date, pointing them to August 2021 (at the earliest).
There are about to be a lot of disappointed Yellowstone fans.
Although Paramount Network picked up the show for a fourth season before season 3 even began, there’s still no sign of the Dutton family’s return to TV. In previous years, the show has returned with a new season in mid-June, so many fans expected season 4 to premiere on June 20, 2021 — exactly one year from when the show came back for season 3. The problem: We’re just about a week away from the anticipated release date and there hasn’t been any confirmation whatsoever.
At first, it seemed possible that Yellowstone would come back in June. Chief Joseph Ranch, the real-life ranch where the show is filmed, posted a photo on Instagram back in November to announce that the show had wrapping filming the fourth season.
But in the time since, we’ve heard more about the spin-off shows on Paramount+, Y: 1883 and 6666, than the one that started it all. There hasn’t been any sign of season 4, actually: No trailer, photos or hints from Kevin Costner and the rest of the cast.
But then, some Yellowstone fans picked up on a very telling Facebook post by Yellowstone Montana Extras. In the post, they put out a call for local extras to participate in a “protest scene that we had to cancel last year due to snow.” Filming would happen over two days sometime in June. That means, the release date announcement may be dependent on when they finish shooting season 4 and it sounds like they aren’t even done yet.
Yellowstone isn’t showing up on the TV listings for the next few weekends, so fans should rule out a June premiere. When Good Housekeeping reached out to Paramount Network representatives to confirm the start date, they revealed that they currently have “nothing to share.”
We could get some good news later this summer, though: Although some fans in the Yellowstone Fans Facebook group have suggested that the show won’t return until November (FYI: There is absolutely no evidence to support this claim.), a few fans on Reddit are theorizing that they are holding the show’s release until the Tokyo Summer Olympics wrap on August 8. If we’re lucky, Paramount Network will release a trailer sometime during the Olympics, so we can know whether or not Kacye (Luke Grimes), Beth (Kelly Reilly) and John survived last season’s attacks.
