Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist fans, we’re crossing our fingers that there will be more heart songs in the near future.
The latest season of the NBC musical dramedy followed Zoey (Jane Levy) as she grieved the loss of her dad. While trying to move on, she tried her best to help those around her, but she just couldn’t sort out her emotions for Max (Skylar Astin) and Simon (John Clarence Stewart). Despite all sorts of drama unfolding — family, work, romance you name it! — it was still fun to sing along to the catchy numbers revealing everyone’s most inner thoughts.
If you can’t wait to see what happens next, here’s what we know about season 3 of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist:
When is Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist season 3 premiering?
NBC has yet to officially renew Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist for season 3. It’s important to note that the first season began airing in January 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic impacted the U.S. entertainment industry. The 12-episode season didn’t experience delays. However, the second season (13 episodes long) did have a minor delay toward the end.
When working on the season 2 finale, showrunner Austin Winsberg said that he didn’t treat it like it was the end of the entire series. Despite not receiving word yet from NBC, he told TVLine that he is operating under the assumption that Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist will continue.
“There are certain things that are answered at the end of the season, and then there are still a few big cliffhangers that we leave open for major storylines in season 3,” he told the outlet. “At no point in the process did anybody tell me to not do that. I wanted to end the season on a hopeful note, not on a bad note.”
Luckily, if Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is given the green light, all signs are pointing to Hollywood slowly getting back to more normal production timelines. Based on past premiere dates, new episodes could likely be released in January 2022.
Who will be in the Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist season 3 cast?
Apart from being talented actors, the Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist cast also has great singing and dancing skills. Right now, we’re predicting that most of the main cast will reprise their San Francisco-based characters for season 3:
- Jane Levy as Zoey
- Alex Newell as Mo
- John Clarence Stewart as Simon
- Mary Steenburgen as Maggie
- Andrew Leeds as David
- Alice Lee as Emily
- Michael Thomas Grant as Leif
- Kapil Talwalkar as Tobin
Depending on how two relationships play out, we may be seeing more or less of certain characters. If Max (Skylar Astin) really goes to New York City to be with Rose (Katie Findlay), fans probably won’t hear much from them in the next season. Another couple whose fate is up in the air is Mo (Alex Newell) and his new boyfriend, Perry (David St. Louis). The pair recently found themselves at a crossroads after having a difficult conversation about identity.
