1. Avoid guessing
NEET scheme specifies the existence of negative marking. For each incorrect response, 1 mark is deducted. Given this criterion, guessing answers can certainly be a blunder. Often, students tend to answer questions without arriving at answers after thinking, taking a chance which could cost them ranks and eventually a seat in their dream college. Refrain from guessing.
2. Understand the question
One must know what a question is asking, often this step is underestimated for its simplicity. Students usually struggle with this challenge given the MCQ type of questions. Before arriving at the right answer, read the question carefully. If you correctly answer the wrong question, it still stands wrong. There are some keywords to look for and not miss while reading NEET questions, they are –
- “Which is NOT”
- “INCORRECT STATEMENT”
- None of these
- All of these
- More than one correct answer
- All of these except
Ensure you do not miss out on these words in the question and options.
3. Eliminate
Eliminate all the possible incorrect answers for all the logical questions in case you do not have the right answer readily. Restricting choices and ambiguity to some extent helps derive at a conclusion. Exclusion approach works for many types of questions.
4. Assess each answer
Once you have correctly detected the question type, you would want to assess your answer. The options provided, especially in a test like NEET are so misleading that each option seems the correct answer. Beware, conclude only when you are sure.
5. Refrain from making extreme choices
At times, solving questions that have the closest options in terms of accuracy may seem time-consuming. Even after facing confusing options and arriving at the right answer, one tends to mark the incorrect option and then later regret the silly mistake. Go through NEET question papers from previous years to understand the nuance of trick questions and keep ready a tactic.
6. Be careful
Act smart when NEET questions are trying to trick you as the aim of these tests is not only to test your conceptual knowledge but also to assess your alertness and smartness. This only comes after being acquainted with these kinds of questions and taking suitable measures. Take time out to analyse the pattern in addition to clearly understanding concepts.
