Not to sound the alarm or anything, but there’s currently hearsay floating around that the newly launched Law and Order: Organized Crime may be coming to an end.
Where is said hearsay coming from, you ask? Distractify reported this week that some fans are concerned that the NBC spinoff of Law and Order: SVU, which featured the iconic reunion of Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), may be short lived since NBC hasn’t announced any plans for a renewal yet.
Going on Twitter, it’s clear that among a small handful of fans there is fear of cancellation. But would NBC really pull the plug? While we don’t know yet for sure, our guess is that Law and Order: Organized Crime will be renewed for a second season and that we’ll hear an announcement from the network sometime this spring. After all, the idea of Olivia and Elliot back together again gave the show’s premiere a 1.56 rating among the 18-49 demo and attracted 7.9 million viewers — in case you’re wondering, these numbers constitute a pretty solid win for NBC.

What’s more, we know that series creator Dick Wolf is all in if NBC gives them the green light. In fact, he basically told reporters last month his plans for a second installment during a press conference:
“In a 24-episode season, which you should think next year would be, you should think about the fact that it’s going to be three eight-episode arcs. And the first third of the season is The Godfather, the second third is American Gangster and the last third is Scarface. And these villains are going to be really bad guys that give Chris a constant source of energy, outrage, belief in justice and a different way of pursuing criminals than we’ve had before. You could always say, what are you going to be doing this year?”
So there you have it. Despite rumors and Twitter murmurs here and there, we really don’t think fans should be too concerned just yet. As reports of other TV show renewals begin to surface, we’re sure to get clarity around Law and Order: Organized Crime somewhat soon. And when we do, we’ll be sure to keep you posted on NBC’s decision.
