Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest recently celebrated a big moment on Live With Kelly and Ryan.
On Tuesday’s episode of the ABC daytime talk show, the cohosts walked out on stage to find their chairs sitting side by side. Since returning to their New York City studio in September, Kelly and Ryan had been sitting six feet apart in accordance with CDC guidelines for unvaccinated people amid the coronavirus pandemic. But now that the CDC has deemed it safe for fully vaccinated people to “resume activities without wearing a mask or physical distancing,” the two were given the green light to sit next to one another again.
“Wow, I totally forget we used to sit this close to each other,” Ryan said. “We’re a little nervous about it.”

“This seems awfully close,” Kelly replied before quipping, “I feel like this is a level of intimacy that one of us should be wearing protection for.”
“I think so too,” Ryan joked back while clarifying that both he and Kelly are vaccinated against COVID-19.
While the Live duo settled into their seats, fans watching from home were thrilled to see the pair reach this milestone on the show. Hundreds took to the Instagram comments section to share celebratory words with their favorite TV personalities.
“Great to see this ????????????❤️❤️❤️????????,” one person wrote. “Yeaaaa ????❤️ Long time coming,” another added. “Finally! ❤️,” a different fan said. “❤️❤️ this is amazing,” a follower commented.
There were also several other folks excited for next steps, like perhaps having a live crowd in the near future. “I hope the audience is next and them walking out together,” a person wrote. “Still no studio audience yet,” someone else said to which another fan responded, “That will be next. We just have to be patient. Great to see them sitting closer. ❤️????.”
Here’s to taking a big step in the right direction!
